Trip outline. This is a day paddle from a beach on the Langstone harbour mouth known as Eastney, out of the harbour onto the Outer reaches of the East End of the Solent. Crossing firstly in a strict course to one of the Solent Forts called Horse Sands Fort. From there head south towards Bembridge, being highly cautious as it takes us across a major shipping channel. The outward journey might take about 2 hours. We will lunch on the beach at St Helens. The return trip will take us firstly to the small headland at Seaview then across towards No Mans Land Fort and from there towards Portsmouth and east returning to Eastney. The return trip is slightly longer so about 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
As the trip is a sea crossing it essential paddlers are able to maintain a good speed and a straight line against potential flow and or wind, that they listen and follow leaders instructions and are practiced at being able to get out of their boat to self rescue and assist in rescues when needed.
