30-31 Aug: North Devon

Introduction. This will be an excellent opportunity for paddling and exploring the beautiful North Devon coastline and developing your sea kayaking skills.

“The moorland hills of Exmoor National Park meet the Bristol Channel rudely and abruptly, plunging over 300 meters to sea level. The height is lost through steeply wooded slopes topping the highest cliffs on mainland Britain. This makes for a spectacular coastal trip, with the added challenge of the Bristol Channel’s strong tides.”

Dates: Outward travel will be on Friday 29th August, followed by two days of paddling on the 30th and 31st, with return travel on Sunday 31^st.

Kayaking: Our coaches are Paul Greenway and Darren Sherwood from Go with the Flow- Sea Kayaking North Devon https://www.facebook.com/gowiththeflownorthdevon. The weekend will be tailored to us and will likely involve coastal journeys mixed with skills development and coaching in moderate water conditions. Participants must be at least at Explore Award level.

Accommodation: We will be staying at the Ocean Backpackers Hostel in Ilfracombe, where we’ve secured 3 shared rooms, each with its own bathroom. Ilfracombe is a charming town with plenty of options for meals and coffee.

Costs

• Transport: Costs will vary depending on your travel arrangements. The cost of petrol, wear and tear on vehicles used to transport kayaks, and parking fees over the weekend will be shared among participants according to the Club’s expenses policy. Please keep in mind that these additional costs should be expected
• Kayaking: Coaching and guiding £100 per person for both days (with coaching on a 1:4 ratio). Currently, the trip is limited to a maximum of 8 participants. Please note, if fewer people sign up, the coaching fee may increase.
• Accommodation: The cost will vary depending on the number of participants. The accommodation is shared, with a maximum of 3 people per large family room (typically for 5 people). If you would prefer a private room, please contact me, as this will incur an additional cost which you would need to cover (subject to availability at the hostel)
• Kayak rental – subject to availability and confirmation from the coaches. Not guaranteed
